Independent fashion brand Remus Uomo has confirmed it will leave Belfast shopping complex Victoria Square to open a new flagship store in nearby Arthur Street next month.
The retailer, which is part of the 101-year-old Carrickfergus-based fashion house Douglas & Grahame, is investing £500,000 in the new 5,500 sq ft outlet at State Buildings.
The new shop will occupy two-floors in the space previously occupied by Jack Wills.
The fashion chain closed its Belfast shop in March 2020, less than a year after the casualwear company was bought out of administration by the Frasers Group.
Douglas & Grahame, which is now run by brothers Adam and Michael Finlay, said their new unit on Arthur Street will be almost double the size of its exiting city centre shop in Victoria Square, with a number of new positions being created.
Arthur Street has become a popular choice for independent fashion retailers and boutiques.
Remus Uomo will join the likes of Mint Velvet, Joules, Seasalt Cornwall, Jigsaw, Oliver Bonas, Anthropologie, Charles Tyrwhitt and Marella on the pedestrianised thoroughfare.
The Finlays are also eyeing a new café space as part of their Arthur Street move.
The opening of the new Remus Uomo shop next month will end the company’s long-standing relationship with Victoria Square, owned by German asset manager Commerz Real.
Remus Uomo was among the first tenants of city centre retail complex when it opened in 2008. It later relocated to a larger unit within the complex.

It joins the a list of recent retail departures from Victoria Square that includes Apple, H&M, River Island, Tessuti, Ted Baker and Craghoppers.
The centre is still attracting some major retail brands, including those making their debut in the Northern Ireland market.
Lego and Bershka are among the new debutants, with hospitality chains Kripsy Kreme, Knoops and Indian street food chain Mowgli all signing leases in recent times.
While Douglas & Grahame dates back to 1924 in Belfast, its Italian inspired fashion brand was introduced in 1991, joining the likes of 1880 Club and DG’s Drifter.
Managing director Adam Finlay said the Arthur Street flagship will act as the blueprint for a strategy that will target new openings in Britain in the coming years.
“This is a real moment for the brand,” he said. “Over the past seven years we have been laying the foundations to take Remus Uomo into the future.
“Delivering a re-imagined flagship experience in the brand’s home city is a major step forward – one that allows us to strengthen our community in Belfast, deliver a connected retail experience, and set the business up for further growth.”
Brand director Michael Finlay added: “We had been looking for a larger space – and one with real character – to give us the scale and the environment to deliver the all-new, elevated flagship experience we are planning for our customers.
“Arthur Street offered the perfect setting to bring that vision to life, while keeping us at the heart of Belfast’s most exciting retail district.”
